Treme: First Look

Talk to me for any extended period of time about great content on television/film, and The Wire will inevitably come up. David Simon (The Corner, Generational Kill) is the creator of the show and, for me, is one of the greatest storytellers living among us (if not of any time period). He is one of my heroes.

Don’t worry, I won’t expound endlessly on the masterpiece that is The Wire or give a thorough analysis of the series. Many lay people and critics have already done so like SlashFilm and Metacritic.

In any case, David Simon’s newest television series, titled Treme, is premiering in April on HBO. The series takes place three months after Hurricane Katrina where the residents of New Orleans (including musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians, and ordinary New Orleaners) try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane. HBO has released a teaser trailer for the new series. I’m very interested to see how Mr. Simon handles this subject material when cops and drug dealers aren’t the main subjects of the series. At any rate, I’m extremely excited to see the story that this master storyteller wants to tell.
