Stu Maschwitz Talks 24p

This video has been making the Twitter rounds recently and I thought I’d share it here. I’m a huge advocate of 24p over alternative frame rates like 30, 48, or 60 (spare special uses), in no small part because of the writings of Stu Maschwitz (@5tu) at his incredibly helpful blog Prolost. Stu is the original DV Rebel making great strides in the world of digital cinema for the benefit of the entire industry.

In this interview, performed by the always helpful MacVideo site, Stu spends nearly 10 minutes explaining why 24 frames per second has become and will remain the language of cinema. In addition to discussing frame rate, he elaborates further on general film aesthetics and the idea that less is more.

The video is a must see for seasoned professionals, budding filmmakers, and those who have always wondered why soap opears and films look different.
