Jargon Watch – Rosette
Today marks the introduction of a what will be a recurring column, Jargon Watch. The film industry is filled with confusing, arcane, and bizarre terms for hundreds of pieces of equipment. This column hopes to clarify some of these terms in order to help improve your set comprehension.
The Rosette is a serrated metal disk that allows rotation when loosened and holds two components securely together when tightened. You most commonly see Rosettes on tripod heads and tripod arms where the two connect allowing a wide degree of adjustment and customization for the arm while holding the two together tightly when fastened. Different manufacturers have different sizes and pitches so most rosettes are compatible with only a few brands.
Look forward to more helpful jargon tips in the coming future.
