The Business of Screenwriting
I’ve posted resources that have been personally useful in understanding screenwriting as an art, and will continue to post these ‘gold’ nuggets when I think it is of some benefit. Now I would like to start a new initiative to share materials that help orient screenwriters to view their craft as a business. I’m not suggesting that one should only write scripts that are selling in the market right now, or take away from the wild creativity that goes into making a great script. Rather, I wish to suggest that both the art and business dimensions of screenwriting are a reality and must be mastered if you wish to succeed in the industry. The writing of the script is often as important as pitching and networking.
Personally, this is something that I never took seriously until I read scribe after scribe which constantly reinforced that the business of screenwriting is something that many aspiring writers overlook to their detriment. It’s my hope that with the ‘gold’ and ‘business’ sections on this website, screenwriters can work “in” and “on” their craft. This will propel you ahead of the countless other writers wanting to break into the industry.
The Business of Show Institute explicitly helps screenwriters develop their business savvy skills, and I want to share a healthy habit that they recommend.
