Casting Tips for Actors
In the world of acting there are a few things you need to keep in mind when trying to sell yourself (which is, in essence, what you are doing). The next few articles will outline a few basic pointers for casting in general, headshots, resumes, and cover letters.
- Be nice. You never know who knows who. The casting director could be filling in for the receptionist.
- Introduce yourself.
- Dress your type. Dress appropriately.
- Don’t take up too much of their time. They are busy people.
- Don’t send them gifts until they have DONE something for you. One is being grateful, the other is being weird. Also, it won’t help you at all.
- Agents are free. If they try to charge you for something, RUN. They get a commission when you get paid for a job. That’s it.
- Never apologize for making a mistake in your audition. Just keep going.
- Always thank them for the opportunity and their time.
- NEVER call a casting director. NEVER call an agent that doesn’t represent you. You can mail them a resume/headshot/cover letter.
Tune in next time for tips on headshots!
