A Second Look at Avatar

In just 47 days after its release Avatar became the highest grossing movie of all time earning $601.1 million and stands at a worldwide gross of  $2.075 billion. Many attribute Avatar’s astounding success to its visionary visual effects as nearly 81% of its gross came from 3D presentations. Avatar is also nominated for 9 Oscars including best picture. Many movie critics view the battle for the top honor to be between Bigelow’s Hurt Locker and Cameron’s Avatar.

All this praise and acclaim begs a question. Is it really any good? No doubt you have read arguments from people who praise Cameron as the greatest filmmaker of our time, and others who denounce his one-dimensional characters and recycled story plots. I’d like to bring one of my favorite movie reviewers into the conversation.

Red Letter Media reviews Avatar in a two part series. Part 1 and Part 2.

By the way word on the street is that he is working on a review for Attack of the Clones.
