Clean Images at ISO 4000
RED is teasing us again this week with a new 2.2k clip released highlighting the high ISO performance of their new Mysterium-X sensor. The clip is recorded on a hybrid RED One with the new sensor at ISO 4000 with a RED zoom lens at T2.8 and 1/48 shutter. The only illumination comes from a ~6500K iPhone using a free app called “Just Light.” Mild noise reduction has been applied as part of a new RED capture to delivery color and gamma workflow. This system, of which details are sparse, is used through a new test app that combines color space (REDcolor), gamma (REDgamma), and the previously mentioned NR. This entire workflow is apparently coming to all RED owners (M and M-x sensors) through an SDK update.
Jannard continues his frustrating micro-releases by hinting they can push the sensor well past ISO 4000, possibly to ISO 16,000. Upcoming sensor tests at ISO 800 and ISO 16000 should continue to give us a better idea of what this new generation of imaging technology will be capable of – if it is ever released.
